Company fellates themselves over mid-year pay raise, it’s less than half of current inflation

I just really need to rant about this because I’m really stressed over it. My company announced it’s giving its lowest earning staff (the bottom third or so of pay grades) a mid-year pay increase of “x” percent (not saying which percentage, as this was on the news in my country and I don’t want to get in trouble for identifying myself as an employee on social media). The thing is, current inflation in my area is 2x.y percent. And when you think of the percentage increase in terms of whole years, what we’re really getting is 0.5x percent… we get annual wage reviews typically, and everyone got about a half percent less than the new percentage says, for the whole year. I just can’t believe everyone’s publicly treating this like such good news and that the company’s listening to us, when we’re still taking a pay cut in times…

I just can’t believe everyone’s publicly treating this like such good news and that the company’s listening to us, when we’re still taking a pay cut in times where the cost of living means most of us can barely save. I think they’re trying to make people who see this for what it really is feel “ungrateful” or “entitled” on purpose, so that we’ll shut up and take our pay cuts on the chin like good little capitalists. We’re in the financial industry ffs. It’s not like they don’t know what they’re doing.
