The company I work for is selling its corporate HQ and yet will still force us back to the office. It doesn't make sense, all this talk from the leadership team about running a low cost business and now they're going to rent back office space from the people they're selling to so they can make us come back to the office.
The company has been run successfully from everyone's home since the beginning of the pandemic and there was no talk whatsoever about returning. Then there's a VP-level change and suddenly something like 200 people are going to have to commute to work.
And for what? They say it's for community and collaboration…That's all. Nothing actionable, not because our job requires it, not because anyone asked to return… Community and collaboration.
Oh and the kicker is it's only the people under this VP that will return. 75% of the company will continue to work remotely, meaning that many people are just going to come in to sit in zoom meetings and answer emails all day.
It makes me sad because I really liked this job. My stress levels have dropped significantly and I'm saving so much time and money by being able to work from home. Now it's being taken away from me because a VP whose name I didn't even know decided to handwave us all back to an office.
Anyways, time to find a new job. (ugh)
