Antiwork

Company pays me 13 an hour. Is now trying to sell my labor for 80.

So, I work in advertising. I earn dogshit. I'm salaried, so I have to be available at all hours and do whatever is asked of me. I work all the hours that are needed of me. Recently, a new boss was brought in after the last one had enough and quit. The new boss is absolutely useless. She's been here for six months now, and is still asking people to pull out old mails or fetch shit from the server for her, because she can't figure out how to import our archives, nor figure out our server structure. She's utterly incompetent. All the work my old boss was doing has passed to me, so my workload has doubled. She's fine with this. As long as she can sit on her arse doing nothing but spouting shit about stuff she doesn't understand, she's fine. I've politely asked her multiple times to…

I've politely asked her multiple times to pick up some slack, but she acted shocked at the suggestion that she actually get her hands dirty and ordered me to do it. Because she “doesn't understand” or “you know more than me on that”. All she does is sit in on our meetings and bill the client at the end of each month. I understand management is tough, but our project basically runs itself and managing a team of 2 is not a full time job.

“We've recently been approached by a new client who wants us to handle some social media stuff for them.” Sounds cool, we can do that. “We going to have you head it up” Nice. “Work with your boss on the details” Ahh christ, here we go again.

Working through those details, I write up the proposal and she offers to handle the quote. Fine by me, as long as she works.

Quote comes through. She's planning to charge them 80 bucks an hour for me. Listing all these skills and qualities that make that reasonable. In reality, I earn 13. She knows this. I've brought up grievances about my pay to her before. I'm not happy to have my labour traded as a commodity, especially when they're buying me dirt cheap and selling me for a fortune. All I'll get out of this is another increase to my workload. I won't see a penny. I'll still have my old responsibilities. Because that's not how our company works.

I know they have to turn a profit, so charging 2 or 3 times what I earn I can understand. But 6 times that amount?

Just, so fucking exploitative. They already charge our existing client twice what I actually earn, and now they're trying to charge even more to a new client? If I'm that capable, that valuable, then pay me. Fuck you. Pay me.
