Company Reduces Compensation for Meetings

Hey all, Wanted to ask a question to see if anyone else has gone through this, and if it's actually legal. My girlfriend's employer (Healthcare in Michigan) mandates regular meetings, while reduces the team's pay to 70% during those meetings. I've heard the meetings – they are long and extraneous, and led by an outside consulting firm. The Doctor/owner's reasoning is that they are not making production money during those meetings. I know for sure it's not legal the way he's doing it – he's altering the timeclocks to equal out that 70% rate, reducing staff's reported hours worked, rather than reducing everyone's pay rate. But – even if he was doing it by reducing the meeting rate, would that be legal? Thanks for any insight!
