Company rules are carved from stone, unless they need you.

My company sent me to abroad on a “1 month project” in the middle of the epidemic. I ended up working there for 5 months. No breaks, crazy overtime. While I was away the office went to 2 days work from home 3 days in office (Mondays obligatory). When the project ended on a Thursday I travelled back and was informed I HAD to be in the office on Monday. I live far from work and my car battery had died while I was away. (Bear in mind I had been working on this from thousands of miles away.) To use public transport would have added 4 hours to my normal 2 hour daily total commute, so I said no, I don't care, I've given enough. I'll work from home until I can fix it/finish.
