I was told recently that I’m not allowed to be friends outside of work with one of my coworkers. And that we’re not allowed to be friends with really anyone outside of work because it could be seen as favoritism. Is this a legitimate thing that has legal ramifications if we continue to have a friendship outside of work as long as it doesn’t interfere? I just don’t understand how a company wants everyone to get along and work well together but then when they do then issues arise.
