Company was picky during interview

There's a company i had a difficult application interview with. They were like “You like gardening? Isn't that a very time intense hobby?!”. Did ad-hoc programming puzzles where the “wrong” part of the puzzle would likely have been caught by compiler or was outside of the puzzle (i.e. a wrongly named variable which required domain knowledge). They furthermore made fun of my asking salary. I think i still handled it very gracefully and provide a very good degree yet received a refusal. I was confused with the way that interview went. 6 months later said company was still looking for applicants. The title of the listings included now the pretext “urgent:”. 3 more months later (today) they post listings to hire career changers for the position, providing for the training. Offering the same amount I was asking for 9 months ago. Turns out the grass grows all by itself.
