Hello, long time anti-worker first time poster.
I worked for a large dispensary chain for about a year. Over the course of that time the utilities were shut off multiple times due to lack of payment, several higher up managers were fired or quit with zero communication to store managers, and they fired several key employees without warning or proof (legal in my state). Can they do that?!?! Yes. Obviously they can. On top of these issues, we were robbed at gun point two times, owners did nothing to improve security. We started bringing our dogs in when we were working alone to feel safer, and once the owner came to the store in person (2nd time i've seen them in store in a year of working there) they flipped out over the “breeds” of our dogs and brought of the FDA (federal agencies have nothing to do with federally illegal cannabis). The owner directly told us they were okay with it prior.
Flash forward several months, i'm now the lone person working a shift after 80% of my fellow staff either got fired or quit, we are severally understaffed, i'm working my ass off everyday and after my shift today, I get a written warning. Now, I was late to a shift because I slept through my alarms, that is my fault and with the stress of work i'm no surprised it happened. In this write up is very disrespectful language specifically reflecting on my quality of work. This was the last straw. I handed in my keys and quit on the spot. You should have seen his face. He begged me to stay.
This subreddit partially gave me the courage to take this step, so thank you all!
