I work for a certain national car dealership. My supervisor doesn't know my username but I know he watches this sub so I'm being as cautious as I can.
I've been talking with my coworkers and I think I have enough of them on board to sign cards and get unionized. There are just a couple of things making me hesitate and I'm hoping some feedback here will help me to make a move.
1) We are a tiny and relatively new market for the dealership. We only have six employees, and one of them is part-time. My concern here is that if we vote to unionize, the company will just shut down our entire branch (right to work state).
2) I suspect it's because we're so small, but the big unions I've tried to contact haven't sent me any word back. I would be okay with forming an independent union, but I also think that's supposedly much more difficult than joining a pre-existing union.
Just looking for guidance from this awesome community. Worth the effort? Is it illegal for them to close a branch in response to a unionization effort? What do?
