Contract renewed and termination letter in two weeks!!

I'm a postdoc on a J1 visa since 2018 (Italian immigrant cancer researcher). My boss renewed my contract at the end of may. I received a new Ds2019 from HR on June first. I got Covid a week after and when I came back at work he told me that my contract will be terminated in three months. June 14 I received a termination letter from the HR because of “lack of founding” . I'm sure is a bullshit and you would like to know”what happened then?”. while I was sick at home for Covid, I realized that my boss assistant went on my workday profile and tooks several days of sick leave also in advance assuming that I wasn't going to work because of Covid. So I emailed both my boss and the assistant about a phone call I had with a Covid assistant of the university I'm working…

I think my boss took the HR thing like a threat or something…. my question is …IS THAT FUCKING NORMAL?? sorry about my crappy English!
