So I work at a small-town grocery store, since I can't drive (health issues) and live in a smal town, it's close to my house so since I wasn't hired at the bank its the best I got atm.
I make 11.50 an hour.
I've recently been hounded by my manager for being too slow, not able to stock shelves at the arbitraiy 70 cases an hour number he has as a metric, it's not a big deal, it's annoying for sure we're so short-staffed that there is sweet FA he can do, and if he reduces my hours or demotes me to bag boy I'll quit on the spot, and he knows this cause its why I was moved from bag boy to stocker in the first place.
Anyways, context out of the way this is the conversation I had as I was wrapping up today:
Manager: Hey OP, you've got a layer of Ice Cream left (which isn't that much) and the dairy cooler is messsy, do you mind staying an hour and doing that
Me: am I going to get time and a half?
Manager: Well, no, you're not full time so you'll just get more hours
Me: then I'll pass
Manager: What?
Me: if I'm not getting overtime, then getting one extra hour of work isn't worth it.
Manager: why not?
Me: Because an extra 11.50 is not really worth working more than what I'm already scheduled, give me more scheduled hours.
not really able to come up with a good response I just clocked out and left leaving him kinda stunned in silence.
