She has been working for the last month as a dog walker and pet sitter for a company in town. We never really expected it to be the best gig, but she needed some work and loves dogs. The first red flag was when she went to a meet and greet with a client and her manager didn’t show up. This happened a few times despite her being told that she wouldn’t be doing those alone. Then her paycheck came in and it was not just disappointing, it was insulting. She was told she would be paid 50% of the visitation cost and also a reasonable gas stipend. The reality was more like 30%, there was a $2.00 gas stipend added to her check. When she asked about that she was told that it was actually a bonus that the owners added to her pay and that the only gas stipend they have is a 0.50 cent per-trip allowance that is only in place “until gas gets to a more reasonable price”. It’s really disheartening watching your partner get exploited and insulted like that. She had tried to reconcile things with her manager and explain that this job was costing her money and making her feel unsafe at times. The employment contract stated that she was not allowed to have any other employment that involved working with pets while working for them. We both still feel somewhat uneasy about her leaving a job when she doesn’t have another lined up. What are everyones thoughts here? Does this seem like a good move?
