Because you don’t want us to be anything more than your goddamn spies and champions of bullshit. I’ve been in HR for more than 10 years. When I entered the field, I was SO passionate to help people (I actually tried healthcare, nursing, because I have a natural want to help people – but threw up on the first day of A+P.) Thought HR would allow me to do what I love. Wrong. I’ve been in 6 different organizations since my career began and left each time I realized that if you’re not going to act as the organization’s “police,” it’s not going to work. So I would leave at the first sign of unethical behaviors. Just started a new job and here I thought I finally found a great place – only to realize my sole purpose was to act as a narc. They wanted me to have personal conversations with all employees only to relay what they said. Which I fucking know is to be used for retaliatory purposes. I quit today and I quit HR. Fuck you companies for not allowing HR professionals to use our skill sets to build REAL resource centers for all employees, to build REAL compensation programs that reflect an actual living wage PLUS room for comfort, to build REAL development opportunities to help someone grow personally and professionally (but we are “family” – wouldn’t you want to see them grow ?) – to ENACT REAL CHANGE for the better.
I can’t wait to see corporate America crash. I hope the world is kinder to you fuckers than you were to your employee base.
