Hello everyone
Sorry if this is not the appropriate place to post this but I'm kind of desperate for some advice.
I took family leave because I just had a daughter and I did all the paperwork and I was supposed to not get paid from my job and instead get the whole family leave money for 12 weeks.
Anyway I got paid for my job by accident someone in HR didn't do their job and I alerted them so that I could return it. I come back to work today and I found out that not only do they want what they gave me but any deductions from my paycheck such as income tax, state tax, my deferred compensation plan and Medicare. But I still have to give the base money back
So to make it a simple summary let's use some numbers. My gross pay is 1000$. My net pay is 600$. 400$ of that goes away to taxes and such. I got paid for work that I didn't do because I was on approved family leave. I returned back to work only to find out that now they are asking not for the $600 that they gave me incorrectly but the additional $400 that I don't have that was given in taxes. I don't know what to do I don't know if I need to get a lawyer in the situation.
Any advice in the situation would be incredibly helpful I really don't know what to do and I think it's super unfair that I come back from family leave from having a newborn baby and now expect it to pay an extra couple thousand dollars back to my job for money that I never even earned.
I mean that's pretty crazy right?
