Just for some background I work for a fairly large luxury hotel “chain” (each property is individually owned, just operated under a particular brand name). I won’t name names but think some of the nicest hotels in the country/world really. The kind that rich people routinely spend $3k+ a night at.
I’ve had several problems with my paychecks being short, some by up to several hundred dollars. Hours have been counted wrong, holiday time has been missed, overtime rates have been wrong. Today, we figured out that my coworker has been $3 an hour underpaid since at least January. They owe him upwards of $1200 by my math. My question to some of our labor law experts in this page is this: how do we fuck them as much as possible for this? Is this something that the labor department would look into? I live in California so I figure we probably have decent labor laws here. I just figure that they’re gonna keep fucking us unless we catch it by actually auditing our own paychecks, which I should not have to do every time I get paid. Would reporting them have any consequence for them, or are they free and clear as long as they fix it every time we catch it?
