About two months ago my employer decided to do away with our intricate work schedules on paper and “go green” by making us either write down our schedules or routinely check our work emails.
The work schedules have us coasting from one station to another, giving around half a dozen breaks to various coworkers throughout the day. It’s a ten hour day, so it can definitely be a hectic schedule.
I have been taking a picture of the daily schedule and highlight my stations. It’s time consuming, but not nearly as writing it down.
My coworker keeps suggesting I add my work email account to my phone so that I can check it hourly. It would make it easier, but I refuse to put anything more on my personal phone other than the picture of the daily schedule, of which I can fully delete.
Instead of my coworker putting the blame for the inconvenience on our employer, he keeps saying it’s on me. Maybe it is, I tell him, but fuck if I’m going to allow anything work related on my PERSONAL PHONE. I paid for it, it’s mine.
Now, if my employer pays for my cell phone bill, or buys me a phone, I’d gladly put the work email account on it. But they don’t, so I won’t.
I’m so damn tired of people defending the actions of employers that just want to make life more challenging.
