Current situation at my place of work.

I work for a large retirement community here in the great state of Florida. If you want to buy a new house with cash here, you’ll meet us. Anyway we don’t have an active supervisor. There are 7 of us and two schedulers on our team. It’s a very wild weird story that I can’t type the whole thing but there are now let’s say 3 veterans left in our department. These vets apparently had a supervisor out of absolute hell. Their supervisor required that she had your username & password for your computer and email because she would check everything. She would require a single person to sort the paper clips, big paper clips and small paper clips for certain documents. If they were wrong she would yell at you. If you had something urgent you would need her permission. (Now we just leave if something urgent is going…

Anyway this lady had crazy ocd and was just a power hungry nut. There are endless stories and honestly the veterans never stop talking about how bad and nasty she was. But they are basically trained and drilled in their minds the ways of our trade works in a particular manner. If they made mistakes, they would verbally be abused in front of all of your employees.

Many people quit under her but there were technically 4 vets at this time

We’ll she got covid in December of 2020 and almost died. While she was away the employees came clean to the supervisors boss.

The supervisor was given a different title and task and she is no longer in the building. Given the veterans no supervisor they now must learn the process very well.

I am hired in 2021 of January. Different department but three months later I was in there. I can’t type how much of a mess this place was. Granted this was when the department was now selling homes at a record high. I won’t go into too many details so there’s 4 vets, friends with one. She moved to a different department due to the other 3 vets.

These 3 vets are now very particular with how the process is handled. One is the scheduler and she trained me, she’s great but she handles all of our main phone calls. She speaks with our boss dude.

Another is considered the deed lady. Deed lady has also trained me on her job and I know both jobs well. As a person I like her but as an employee no. She has spoken very poorly of me multiple occasions to our peers due to mistakes and instead of approaching or emailing, she will tell everyone to tell our boss. This lady is probably the most particular of the bunch. She claims she is scarred from their supervisor and claims it may be a reason why she is stuck in old ways.

But she can be very rude and she can have melt downs. She will act out inappropriately at others in a odd manner I’ll say. This last summer she would not even joking, would watch movies while working. And not like listen but watch. She did all of her shopping and just would actually act like you are being rude if interrupted even though she’s not on break. Also typically takes longer lunches like 15-30 mins longer.

And last but not least the head of the beast. This woman handles our wires and kinda has to look at our files I guess? Idk I also know her job well. But idk this woman acts like our supervisor. Granted she is very resourceful in our department due to her knowledge of the wires and in some other fields. This one is the most annoying of the bunch. She will get all up in your business of what’s going on with your work, she will have snarky little comments to you. She has told people to shut up. When she tells you to shut up it’s always in a fun joking manner but how rude is that?

We sit in two separate rooms but right next to each other. 5 in one with 2 vets and 1 vet in the other side. They’re not big rooms and they used to get yelled at if they were talking about stuff outside of work.

Well now if you talk too long of outside work stuff, deed and wire lady make a fit and tell you to go back to work. But they’re allowed to chat, laugh and have a great time.

Anyway wire lady would attempt to get the number 4 vet fired who’s a single mom. She would call our boss complaining about whatever thing.

The 3 vets are now a clique in a manner. What they say goes, they’ll take input but overall it’s their call. They will complain to each other and inform our boss over the phone. There’s so much damn fucking drama in this department it drives me wild. It stresses me out and it’s not even the work. The work is typically cut and dry and errors that happen are correctable errors. We are not conducting rocket science here and easy fixes.

I have had to claim about $50k after closings from 4 clients now within my year process which I would say is the biggest mistake you can make in this department. It is a very big mistake and now I have to tell a lawyer that there was a typo on the paperwork and there was an oversight. The highest amount was 20k for reference.

These folks typically have already sold their home and bought a “cheaper” home.

Annnnnnyway holy cow sorry I just have to get this off my chest. Reminder larger retirement community in Florida. My co workers are all “retired” in their 50-60’sfolks making decent money.

So vet scheduler is off for this current week! Boss dude is like yoo mr beaver can assist since you know the craft and I’m like ooo yeah. To do this job I would then sit across the hall now with the schedulers. Away from the wire and deed lady. I am here to answer phone calls and assist the other scheduler in whatever manner. Since sitting over here the ladies are all newer than me. Meaning we haven’t experienced the supervisor that haunted the vets.

While I am over here assisting, the other two vets become worrisome that I’m spending time over there. Wire lady, “do you need to be sitting over there to help?” “I’m here to assist the scheduler, why wouldn’t I be near the area to help?”

Wire lady keeps questioning why I’m sitting over there. Boss dude told me to help. Then she gets mad that I am over there. She then calls boss dude to complain about me sitting over there and not helping. Schedulers can only schedule so far out. We are at that so far out and people are bored now.

We are over staffed and I am actually going to a different department here soon but the timing is off. Very poorly planned by my boss but anyway I’m out within the next idk few months here.

Anyway I have complained to boss dude regarding wire lady and deed lady. Nothing really happen and takes it as nothing since vet 4 was complaining about them her entire tenure.

But 34 f peer is definitely more proper than I am and will be taken more seriously. She’s on the phone with boss dude complaining about the vets! So I’m like wow someone else is complaining now and see boss dude doesn’t know a lot about our overall department. Dude is more into tech so we have to inform him what our craft is often.

He’s never around and is definitely a little quirky socially. Like I guess picture a 50 year old ken doll I guess haha the dude has that smile all the time and idk but he’s fine. I’m always pretty loose with him and he’s loose with me too. I am honest with him which I know isn’t the ideal but it has worked out for me so far. Haha that sounds bad but I am open about our “work culture”.

So whatever we have this lunch break timing where the two vets are at lunch and all of us “new” people had a meeting! We discussed what was going on and how inappropriate this has become. When we have all experienced it from honestly all 3. Scheduler lady is great but they’re the three headed snakes. They act all nice but then complain to boss dude about nonsense and wasting his time.

End of this drama island survivor style work environment, scheduler #2 who I was assisting gets an in person meeting with boss dude. They go chat about the issues of the two vets. Then boss dude grabs deed lady. The one watching movies and whatever all day. Their meeting was like an hour long and when she came back was trembling.

The vets have been trying to get me fired and unfortunately I think deed lady may have been released due to her reaction coming back. Maybe not idk.

Idk but it has been so stressful. The work is fine but the two people make it helll. We are all considered equal title wise. We all “supposedly make the same” but haha I am the highest paid employee even more so than the vets. I make a dollar more than scheduler and wire lady and 2-3 dollars more than others. Because I threatened to leave.

And the reason I want to leave is due to the vets. The work is easy, I get an hour lunch we’re I get to drive home to chill and overall it is easy work just lots of info. The money I make is decent but I want more.

New job has same perks just harder work, (which is needed I spend way too much time on Reddit at work and it’s horribly slow), less lunch break but has bonuses.

I will be making the same but new job is a bit more serious since it’s a title company. They have awesome annual bonuses like you’re taking home $2.5k after taxes of your bonus. Lots of other great stuff and I mean even this title company wants to utilize me the same way I was trained here. I like to do a little bit of everything and not consistent like different duties.

Sorry I’m pretty damn baked but this place is nuts. I never have experienced so much catty drama in my entire life. If anyone has read any of this please share you’re thoughts on this work environment.
