Dangerous jobs

It is insane to me how much risk people can take just to get by. I am an electrician who used to be a chef for a decade. I changed careers for a variety of reasons, but primarily it was growth potential. What gets me is that I can earn 18 an hour for: climbing up 23 feet to install fixtures, working with live power, doing it in the dark, and climbing through ceilings with only joists to stand on. It's absolutely crazy that I don't make enough to save money with a modest lifestyle. Our econony I think is designed so that we get mad about othes who make more or an even amount for sitting at a computer in an office, instead of those who pay us.
