Daycare worker. Had to find out one of my kids had COVID from a parent at pickup. Admin never notified staff.

I don't have a problem being notified after the parents, but not telling us at all so that we look like deer in headlights when communicating with parents doesn't feel good at all. That's an extra 6 hours I could have been taking extra effort to make sure all surfaces and toys were disinfected, taken steps to safeguard my own health and would've had the kids do the same. This has been the latest decision in a long line of jaw dropping-ly bad communication issues we've been experiencing lately. Staff is pissed, and complain constantly but I don't think anyone wants to say anything to administration. I want to but idk how to go about it. The rule is, we don't have to be notified at all if a co-worker has COVID unless we were within 6ft of them for more than 15 mins. Id assume a student counts as…

The rule is, we don't have to be notified at all if a co-worker has COVID unless we were within 6ft of them for more than 15 mins. Id assume a student counts as a co-worker in this sense. Obviously if we are notified, they keep it anonymous but we only have 18 staff. Kinda easy to figure it out.

Anyway, mom came to pick up today and she goes “well I guess we'll see you in 5 days” I go “really, How come?” She looks at me and raises an eyebrow “because of the outbreak or whatever. It's a real inconvenience.” I sort-of nervously laughed and looked to my Administrator who was standing by the door. She turns to the parent and goes “you weren't supposed to say anything.” Fun times.
