I work at Tandy Leather Factory in Ohio, and we were fighting for a raise for months. My boss spend weeks writing up a massive proposal for at least 17 to 22 an hour. This proposal included the fact that the minimum anyone is making is at least 15 in my area.
I now, as of this afternoon got a giant boost of 1 dollar and 15 cents. So now I make a very impressive $11.15.
Is it worth it to send an email saying how disrespectful that is? How big of a disappointing joke that was? Despite the things I, and my coworkers go through, they gave us all a dollar. Despite of what the entire world is going though definitely affecting each of us, and they think that 11 dollars an hour for a full time job is a smart and responsible thing to do as business owners?
I took the pay-cut to learn a craft and help other crafters. I got in as a new store manager came. Stated he wanted to fight for each of us to have a livable wage, a new remodel, and marquee. He did his absolute best and will go down as the best store manager I’ve had the pleasure of working for.
But goddamn this hurts. I’m so passionate about it. It’s sad to know I have I give up a dream for something unethical. It’s sad to know there are people that have never never met me deciding my fate like this. To crush my dreams after record breaking profits.
