Denied a pay rise I was told I was getting

So recently, I was told by my boss that I was getting a pay rise. Not too much more than I was getting but the money adds up. He showed me a table showing how much an employee of my level (and time at the company) would be getting. The company itself is now refusing to pay me that much, despite there being documented evidence that that is what I am entitled to. This is a document sent out by the higher ups to store managers regarding employee pay. So I am fully aware of how much they were willing to pay me, it feels like an insult that they would secretly go back on that. The company is DRAMATICALLY increasing the prices of everything they sell, but seemingly stagnating employee wages. I guess as a means of boosting profit?

Luckily I have a very supportive boss and he is trying to fight his managers for the pay I am entitled to. I just want to know if there is anything I can do on my end? Like, is telling you would get a certain amount of money and then going back on that statement even legal? Where would I take this if there was some kind of case against it?

(if any legal advice is possible I live in the UK)
