Denied a promotion because I’m a workhorse.

I was denied for a promotion for very unclear reasons, and I assumed all sorts about why (my work performance is excellent, people in my department like me and rely on me but there are issues with my manager.) Then I was told that they decided I had been chosen for and should be trained for the promotion and I was obviously relieved and excited. When I inquired about it yesterday, since I noted that the training class had started and I wasn’t in it, I was told that ultimately it was decided that they “can’t afford to take me off of my workload” for training. That they chose to promote others who may have been less qualified because they do less work and the department wouldn’t be hit so hard. I said “Wow so I’m a workhorse and that’s why I’m not being promoted?” My manager laughed and said…

I do the work of two people and I don’t even mean to. I don’t know how to work any slower or less efficiently or at that point they could fire me for theft of time.

It’s bullshit.
