I have been working with this company for almost two years now and have been doing the work of a manager for almost two years since our location doesn't have an assigned manager. I was pretty much forced to transfer due to some conflict of interest or would possibly face termination. To begin the transfer I was told I had to apply to the other location and then my transfer would begin. I applied to the position I am working right now but had noticed that there was a position for management at the other store so I decided to apply for that spot as well. I later received a call from HR and the first thing he told me was “Your district manager told us that you were interested in transferring to this location?” I responded by saying “I wasn't particularly interested but I assume termination is my other option”. I then brought up that I had applied to the management position and the HR rep said “did anyone tell you to apply to the position? Did you let your manager know?” I said no and then he told he couldn't just give me the position and that I had to interview for it just like every other candidate. He said he would talk to the general manager of that store about setting up an interview since I explained to him all of the responsibilities I had since the first day and that it would put me in good standing. I had also spoken to other managers from other locations that I had worked with and they've all said I was a hard-working individual and that with my experience I would be perfect for the job.
Fast forward a few days
General Manager of the new location stops by the store I'm currently working at to introduce himself to me so I took the opportunity to ask him about the management position since I had been doing work that managers do for almost 2 years now and he said that they don't really need another manager since he's the general manager. I asked him if I could get an interview at least and he said “I'm going to be taking down that position since there's really no need for it” and “I dont know how you work so we'd have to take it by baby steps” so it eliminated the need for an interview I guess. I don't know what to do..
