Denied full time remote work because I live within a reasonable distance from the office

I currently work for a company where over half of the employees work remote from all over the country. Those of us in the area of our main office are currently allowed to work a hybrid schedule. I have explained that it seems wrong to deny certain employees this financial benefit, as well as the perk of no commute and more personal time, just because they live in a certain geographical location. But they are standing firm. Has anyone else dealt with this, and are they allowed to discriminate based on where I live?
