“Desperately” needed workers

I applied for a job as a data entry/ office admin clerk for a trucking company, and had an interview with the office manager which went great. I have extensive office admin experience, and am looking for a part time position while going to school. The office was a completely disorganized mess, and the manager confided in me that they desperately need someone. I applied for a job as a data entry/ office admin clerk for a trucking company, and had an interview with the office manager which went great.

I have extensive office admin experience, and am looking for a part time position while going to school.

The office was a completely disorganized mess, and the manager confided in me that they desperately need someone.

She is running the show alone, and she was due to be on leave in 3 months time (surgery) and that when she’s gone the plan is the new hire would take on her role. Totally fine I can swing it. I even gave some examples as to what I would do to get things more organized/ efficient which she loved.

Then we get down to pay… she informs me the owners pay MINIMUM WAGE…
If I wanted a minimum wage job I would work as a grocery store cashier (no shade intended to cashiers, office admin is just more demanding).

I told her respectfully my price is $20/ hr, but I was willing to compromise with $18/hr depending on what else they can offer me (flexibility, maybe some benefits etc..)

She was respectful and said she would relay it to the owners and that I should expect a call from them within a couple weeks because I made a good impression on her.

Guess who never called me?

It’s ridiculous. These businesses are “desperate” for personnel and complain they can’t get anyone to work. Yeah… no one is going to work for pennies asshole.
