I work at a small marketing firm and the boss/company owner is a jackass. He exploits his employees and underpays. There’s a lot of other issues in the company. We have a super high turnover rate. He has been sued for sexual harassment in the past so you can see where I’m coming from.
Anyways, in the team meeting this morning he tells everyone to smile so he can take a screenshot in Zoom. He says that all the profiles in the call will be the company picture and that we will be cutting down an image of everyone in the meeting to be their stationary image. One of the women on the team said “I’d appreciate you let me know before we are going to be taking my screenshot. I don’t feel comfortable having that as my company facing image from today.” He got upset and was like, “Fine. We will do it Monday. Take a shower and put on your lipstick then so we can do it”.
Most of the women were super offended by that comment. Especially because most of the women in the team don’t even wear makeup. I doubt he’d have said that to a man. What do you think? It was a shitty comment regardless but to me it borders on sexism. This is a huge downside to working in a small company. Stuff like this flies whereas that would get you fired at a Fortune 500 corporation that at least has some checks and balances in place.
I am looking to leave this company soon. The job market is rough though.
