Did you accept the counteroffer?

I was having a conversation with my DH last week about whether I should accept a counteroffer from my current employer if I told them I was leaving for another company. I like my job and would stay if I were paid more, but there are a lot of opportunities in my industry that pay a lot more than what I am making now. My DH thinks that accepting a counteroffer is a bad idea — even if the current employer were to beat the new employer's offer. His reasoning is that, since you've already shown that you're not loyal and you're eyeing the exit anyway, the current employer will only keep you on staff until they can find someone to replace you. EDIT: seems like there's pretty universal agreement that accepting the counteroffer is a bad idea.
