Hey everyone, just wondering if this is legal because it feels so wrong.
I work part time as a pizza delivery driver, but end up calling out 1-2 times per week due to my disabilities (severe anxiety, migraines). I've tried to apply for disability but they denied me dispite a doctors letter and other proof.
A lot of people quit a couple weeks ago because the university semester ended, so we're a bit short staffed.
Last week I was having several intense panic attacks (obviously wasn't fit to be driving a vehicle for 8 hours) but couldn't find anyone to cover my shift.
I told one of the shift managers I could not come in but couldn't find someone to cover and they said they would just use Doordashers.
I leave my phone for a while and come back to a different manager saying if I do not come in or get someone else to, that they would take it as a “no-call-no-show” and wouldn't be eligible for unemployment.
Obviously this made the whole situation worse because I was already panicking.
One of my coworkers gave up their day off when they heard what was happening. I feel so horrible for making other people pick up my slack.
I know this situation is going to happen again but idk what to do.
TLDR: I am disabled and had to call out of work, couldn't find shift coverage so they said I was quitting.
