Got a call from the owner of my company today asking if I have told employees what other people make (I run payroll) and of course I said no. He then proceeded to not believe me and interrogate me about conversations I’ve had with other employees. When I went on to explain that people who work here are friends and probably discuss each others pay, he said it was against policy. He didn’t seem to believe me and I will most likely be written up and/or fired. Is this legal???
