I’ve been at my agency for five years. There is a much younger, much less experienced dude who they recently promoted to the regional level which is one step above me and his former position.
Our executive director met with everyone with my position in June and fed us a bunch of lines about how our loyalty is a non-negotiable.
Meanwhile, this asshat that they promoted left our agency for another position with a different agency for about a year, then returned. How is that loyalty?
Not only that, but I recently found out that the director also matched salaries for a couple people who fielded offers from other places. Again, how the fuck is that loyalty?
Meanwhile the people who “go above and beyond” and are actually loyal see no raises and no advancement. One of my subordinates texted me about it today basically saying all the things I’m typing here. He said he doesn’t feel motivated to go above and beyond any more. I told him not to. Stop coming in on weekends, stop staying late, stop being proactive. I will not fault him or anyone else for it one bit.
