These company owners are destroying a beautiful industry that we fought HARD to have legal. I’ve worked at 3 dispensaries since turning 18, and let me tell you guys, this shits wrong.
My first dispensary I was 19. I got paid $10 an hour. Part time. My roommate at the time had a bunch of medical problems, I woke up to the EMT crash team breaking down my front door, opening my bedroom door to find my friend dead on the floor. Like any traumatized person, I called into work. I got fired my next shift for abandoning my shift. When i was given my final check, it was 10 hours short. I showed them my hours I had worked, that I printed off from the scheduling site, and then showed them the BS paystub they tried to give me. They basically said fuck you.
2 years later I finally decided to try another dispensary. Paid 11. Part time. My second shift I got the vibe pretty quickly. That not only did they ONLY hire females (discrimination) all the employees did the entire time was sit in the back and gossip. That’s not really my style, so I decided to check my phone. I’m grown. All my shit was done. My manager, who was on her phone I might add, comepletly lost her mind. She stood up, walked towards me and started yelling in my face to get off my phone. When I told her she was being inappropriate, she MADE THE SECURITY escort me out and told me to COME BACK TO MY SHIFT THE NEXT DAY. yea fuck that I didn’t go back.
Fast forward to today. I tried one more time. I knew this place wasn’t different, but i made great friends with the employees and loved the customers so I stuck it out. This company had more money so they paid a little better at 12. After a few months, I had every customers name memorized. I was second in sales. I missed one day of work, because my doctor thought i had appendicitis, so I went to the ER. got notes from the doctor and the er I went to. I was fired the last few minutes of my shift the last shift of the week. They sure wanted to suck me dry before they got rid of me. I demanded a reason for being fired after supplying doctors notes, I was told they “wanted a better employee”. I was furious, they wouldn’t provide me with paystubs or proof of termination.
I had an interview with another dispo about a week and a half ago. They only called me back a few days ago, asking me to start the next day for $10.50. I had a doctors appointment that day because I am 8 weeks pregnant.Now I am no longer getting a response.
You might be wondering why I’m even still trying to work for this industry, I hate regular retail and customer service so much. The customers you get in these places really make day to day life super enjoyable. I also don’t really know how to do much of anything else.. I’ve spent so much time researching and studying on this subject and its definitely one of my most knowledgeable topics.
This was more so a rant than anything. Honestly just seeking validation lol..
