Disposable Worker Disposable Job

Hey everybody I wrote this and thought it belonged here. The following contains explicit language. “I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words… When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise [disrespectful] and impatient of restraint”. (Hesiod, 8th century BC) As a millennial I have heard similar statements all my life. It’s become cliché in many ways; the lazy millennial, never holding down a job, more interested in the luxury of the now than the security of the future. I am here to argue that all of these things are simply a reaction to the situation we find ourselves in. Us millennials were dealt a rough hand from day one and we saw the problems we would have…

As a millennial I have heard similar statements all my life. It’s become cliché in many ways; the lazy millennial, never holding down a job, more interested in the luxury of the now than the security of the future. I am here to argue that all of these things are simply a reaction to the situation we find ourselves in.

Us millennials were dealt a rough hand from day one and we saw the problems we would have to fix and we took them head on. We as a generation have to fix all the colossal set of fuck ups from the previous generations and we accepted that. So, if we hop from job to job then that is none of the boomers’ business. If we drop out of college it is none of the boomers’ business. What we decide to buy or what not to buy for that matter is none of the boomers’ business. How ever we decide to run our economy is our business. Us millennials are the largest economic force on the planet don’t ever forget that.

Now as far as employment goes, I remember hearing before this labour shortage the phrase “If you don’t like it there’s the door.” Now that they need us, they have a problem when we do leave. My whole point in this is if we are to understand that we are a disposable worker then why the fuck is it anybody’s business if we consider the job disposable too?
