I work as a healthcare professional. Having someone be in my role at all times is necessary to the function of the company. I’m the only person working in my area at the company.
I had to give four weeks notice to resign, and am now going into my last two weeks. My boss is now on holidays until I leave, I won’t see him again. He didn’t say goodbye or acknowledge the situation when I last saw him.
There’s a multitude of reasons I’m leaving but conveniently need to move interstate so gave that as my reason. One of my coworkers asked when I move, which is 3 weeks after my notice period ends. She’s gone around and told everyone that that’s when I finish working there, so apparently everyone except for my boss thinks I’ll be there for 3 more weeks. Boss even joked earlier this week about me having ‘cancelled’ my resignation, which I immediately shut down, but he thought was funny.
He’s now on holidays and just didn’t tell anyone about my last day, hasn’t tried to hire anyone for my role and mentioned nothing about handover. If I just don’t show up after my last day I’ll be getting many phone calls asking where I am and if I’m okay, which is stupid and annoying and I’m honestly angry that he’s put me in this position.
I really truly believe in ‘your lack of planning is not my emergency’ but should I be telling people that my last day is coming up fairly soon? Technically it’s up to my boss to do that, but he just hasn’t. Or do I just not show up? Say goodbye on the Friday and be done.
