I (23F) got a new 9-5 job in March, coming from the restaurant industry. I still work at the restaurant 2 days a week after my 9-5. I love my day job, I’ve attained new skills for the job and for my personal life as well. Before I explain how shitty my work environment is, I was to say that I have been working since I was old enough. Babysitting from 9-14, then at a grocery store when I was 15 until college. There hasn’t been a time where I wasn’t working.
My friend got me the 9-5 job. This job has multiple locations, which is important to the story. When I was in training the company would express how employee oriented they are, and they are big on promoting within. I thought this was great – a company who cares for their employees. By the time my training was over and I got to my placement in my job, my boss announced she was retiring. I thought how convenient they hired me and as soon as I started my boss was gone. A few weeks go by and they have yet to replace my manager. We find out end of June that we will be getting a manager from another location, but she will be managing both locations. This is a problem because we are the back burner location. We are lucky to see my manager at my location once a week for 4 hours MAX. We are slow where my job is, but it is frustrating when customers need to get a hold of my manager and there is no manager in this location. Now, one of my coworkers is on leave for surgery. So an office that has 3 full time staff down to 2 full time and one part time. Today, we cannot get a lunch because it is just me and one other worker and my manager says there is no one to cover us at her other office that she manages. When checking the schedule, the other location has 4 staff on. In my job, two people need to be working at all times for legal reasons, leaving us with no lunch. I would normally be okay with this , but I work at my other job tonight which means I have no time to eat in between jobs. My manager assured us that there will be coverage for the rest of the week.
I am a good worker and don’t like to burn bridges, but why would I want to work for a company who doesn’t take care of their staff AFTER expressing how employee oriented they are. Ever since I started this job there has been no consistency and I feel as though they don’t care about the location I work at.
I’d also like to add: after my three month review I interviewed with a higher up about getting promoted to a level higher than I am now. We needed someone in this position due to my coworker out on leave. This interview happened in June, and never heard back. I already take on some responsibilities this position maintains, which is why I don’t understand why I am at a standstill. I don’t have another job lined up but I know I can fall on my restaurant job in the meantime.
What do I do????
