This might seem like an odd rant, but here goes.
I work for a tiny internet and cable company. We provide service to a couple dozen small towns and cities.
I've been here for about a year and a half, running one of their branch offices and being part of their customer care phone team. I'm on the phone 10 hours a day (4 days a week) and I make roughly twice the minimum wage.
About a month ago, I was offered an opportunity to interview for a position with the business team – same company, but substantially less work and much higher pay. I had a few interviews and just got the job a few days ago.
I'm excited about the opportunity – and I would never complain about this to anyone in power – but I'll be doing quite a bit less than I'm doing now and (after commissions and bonuses) making about twice what I was making.
I've definitely put in my share of blood, sweat, and tears for this company over the last 18 months, but this almost seems like a slap in the face to those on the customer care team who have been here much longer and will now be making less than I will.
Anyone else facing anything like this? I'm definitely taking the job – it just seems weird to make more money for less work.
