Do you guys think I was screwed out of a job?

I have a theory about why I didn’t get this job, and I wanna see if I’m just angry, or if it really could be true. Going to try to keep it vague, let me know what you think. Quick backstory, I work in a place that has overhauled all our processes in the last 3 or so years, so me and 1 other person are really the only people who know the new processes, my boss doesn’t. I’m coming up on 3 years at this position, and decide I want to apply for a new job. Same field, same company, even same job title, but supporting a different group, and the key, it’s 100% work from home, while my current job is on site. I think I have a pretty good shot, since we do basically the same thing, I’d just have to learn some new details and regulations.…

I’m coming up on 3 years at this position, and decide I want to apply for a new job. Same field, same company, even same job title, but supporting a different group, and the key, it’s 100% work from home, while my current job is on site. I think I have a pretty good shot, since we do basically the same thing, I’d just have to learn some new details and regulations.

Interview happens, I’m told I’m one of 5 finalists, and that I’ll hear on Friday who’s being hired. Great!

Thursday comes, interviewer says some higher level execs want to approve the decision, so the announcement will be delayed a few days. I’m thinking that’s normal, they want to make sure they get a good worker, whatever.

Next day, my current boss says he knows I interviewed, and that he talked with his boss, and they’re going to set up a meeting to talk about me potentially staying in my current job. Cool, maybe they’ll offer me more money.

Wednesday of next week, and I go to that meeting. They tell me someone else got the job, and that maybe someday they’ll look for a new opportunity for me.

My theory: Current boss didn’t want me to leave because he doesn’t know the new processes like I do, so he talked to his boss, and they pulled some strings to screw me out of a job I should’ve gotten. Otherwise, why go through all the trouble to tell me I didn’t get it??
