I work for a very wealthy family as a ranch manager. I’m the only full time employee and have been here a little over 6 years. For the most part I’m very happy with my job but an issue has come up that has me wondering if I want to be associated with these people.
I work in the mid-west on the family’s ranch (their main residence) they also have a house on Pine Island in Florida, the location of the worst of the Hurricane damage. The head of the family happened to be at the Florida house during the storm and had to ride it out at a friends house after being evacuated from the island. He made it through safe and their house is one of only a handful left standing on the island. The very next day I was tasked with the job of readying a truck and trailer for another family member to make the trip to Florida stopping en route to pick up supplies and fuel that was donated by some of the many contacts that my boss had reached out to for help. They even had me take the trailer in and have 8 brand new tires put on it, also donated.
I was working under the assumption that these supplies were meant for my bosses neighbours that lost everything only to find out that he’s planning on keeping them for his own use. Except for the fuel which he’s selling for $10/gal.
Actually, after writing this out, I have decided that I do not wish to be counted among them.
