Don’t feel bad about job jumping

I just had a conversation with an uncle of mine. He said he has no respect for my brother who has had 3-4 different jobs in 8 years while his son, my cousin, has had the same job in that same time frame. I asked him what the problem was. He said it showed my brother wasn’t loyal. He only wanted money and didn’t care about the company. In his day you were loyal to your company. I agreed. In his day you were loyal to your company but conversely the company was loyal to you as well. I agreed. In his day you were loyal to your company but conversely the company was loyal to you as well. They paid well, they gave bonuses, they offered perks, a single worker could provide for a family and still not be expected to spend every waking hour at work.

My brother has seen his salary jump every time he changed jobs. He left for the money and now makes 2-3x what he previously made and is starting his own business. He never could have achieved that at his first job. My cousin will never achieve that.

If a company was loyal to him he would have been loyal to them. He only started to look for new work after being shit on by management.

Why stay loyal to a place that isn’t loyal to you? That puts profits above your life? You owe these companies nothing. You don’t owe them loyalty, you don’t owe them your time outside of work and you sure as fuck don’t owe them you’re mental or physical health.

Keep on job hunting, keep on hustling, and keep on moving up. Fuck these companies.

Also, don’t feel guilt about leaving. If the companies operation hangs on the balance of you staying or going then they should’ve made damn well sure that you’d stay. It’s not your fault if things will go to shit. That’s on management that’s on the owners. That is not on you! Walk out of these awful places with your head held high.
