At 16 years old(little after the pandemic) i was in desperate need for a job. I tried indeed, ziprecruiter, etc. I resorted to walking up and down business sections in my town for 6 hours in the blistering heat to find a job.
I settled on chipotle, was able to do an online application after asking how to apply, and a few days later got an interview. I came in and the manager made me sit and wait for this interview for 2 hours. Not once did she come out of her office while the cashier kept reassuring me she’d come out eventually. At this point i began to cry because for the past month i’d been trying so hard to find a job with absolutely no luck and now a manager at chipotle was wasting my time.
She gave me the job out of pity i’m assuming because i was answering the interview questions through tears. I sat through the training a week later and found myself saying fuck it. Fuck this job. Try again later, and i quit.
Two years later chipotle gets sued and i get a 0.72 cent check in the mail for the hours i worked in training.
Even though you may think you’re a young “unskilled worker” understand that your time still has value. Quit as soon as you see red flags.
