Why do jobs that obviously don't require driving, still require a drivers license?
I was rejected for a gov job today that I was sure I was gonna get, and I'm trying to figure out why they didn't pick me. I have a masters degree in the field (which isn't required, and therefore made me overqualified), but no drivers license. There were multiple positions open, so that means MULTIPLE people were more qualified than me.
In my interview, they asked about my ability to travel to different locations, and I stated that I don't drive, but I'm very familiar with the local transit system, which is 100% true. The more detailed, whiny version is that I think cars are entirely a product of consumerism and ownership shouldn't be the default way of living. I live in the US where admittedly it is harder to get around without a car, but I still have the goal of living a long life without ever owning a car. I like my bike, and my feet work great.
I'm looking harder for remote work now (advice on where to look is appreciated btw), but I'm just frustrated that my personal beliefs are getting trumped by employer's specific assumption that eVeRyOnE DrIvEs.
