Emotional blackmail for overtime

While we’re all busy working, I have a manager that comes around and ask us if we would like to do an overtime shift. Generally it is to replace a sick call or there’s been a change in demand. This is perfectly reasonable to me. What I do not think is reasonable however, is the way my manager goes about it. When people decline to do overtime she says stuff like: “Oh you don’t want to help out your team?” “Okay that’s your choice, but it’s not fair on the one or two people who are always having to do the overtime.” Sometimes I just say no to spite her manipulative attempts to make us feel bad. I feel like there are so many things wrong with this situation. For example, why don’t you hire more staff, why don’t you stop contributing to a toxic workplace culture so people want…

“Okay that’s your choice, but it’s not fair on the one or two people who are always having to do the overtime.”

Sometimes I just say no to spite her manipulative attempts to make us feel bad. I feel like there are so many things wrong with this situation. For example, why don’t you hire more staff, why don’t you stop contributing to a toxic workplace culture so people want to come to work, why don’t you come in and work the shift?

What would you say to my manager?
