Antiwork

I officially quit June 1st. Today I’ve decided that this was my last day.

I've never worked at a place where they treat employees that badly. Where the boss is that invasive and abusive. I put in my notice last week, but today was the last straw and I won't be coming back. I work until 10 pm. I understand that. I can legally work until 11 pm even! The thing is, I'm a 16 year old girl. I do NOT feel comfortable biking home at 10.30/10.45 pm because of your “end time is guideline” rule. This boss has been making my blood boil and I cannot stand to interact with him anymore. Not just because of his treatment of me, but because of his treatment of others. Fortunately I'm basically hired at another place already. I know bosses are going to be dicks anyway, but nothing can beat Mr. Endtime over here. When I tried to voice my concerns today considering my late…

When I tried to voice my concerns today considering my late work and my parents' worries, he dismissed it and just said “you know you have to finish your work, even if it means working late.” I do know, but I don't wanna do this so that's why I'm quitting in the first place. A little extra help with cleaning the kitchen also wouldn't be a problem. Two people isn't enough for a job that already takes an hour for four people!

He has been helping in the kitchen for the past two days, and the funny thing is that the resignations have skyrocketed in these two days. Last week? No sign of resignations. He's in here, and I keep hearing “I'm putting in my resignation today” from other staff. If that's not a sign this guy should be fired I don't know what is.

I'm not really looking for advice or anything. I just think this shows that the higher ups don't care. Other colleagues just let me go home at 10 pm, as they know I don't feel safe going home at a later time. Someone in a higher position than them or me? “No you gotta be here until potentially 11 pm.”

If they don't care about me, I won't care about them. I've been trying to interpret his actions in a positive way, but this is ridiculous. I will not be trying to see things from his perspective. I will also bring this to the attention of my future employer that this is how I was treated at my previous job. Again, they probably won't care, but it might do something. At least my new workplace closes at 5 PM so at least I'll feel okay biking home an hour after.

I will contact my boss and notify him of my decision. Even if he wants me to come in, I won't come in. I'm finally going to be assertive and put my foot down. I usually try to tolerate this shit, but I've realized that it's not healthy. I shouldn't be putting up with this.

On a more satisfying note, I heard a waitress yell at him when I left because she saw how upset I was. Shoutout to that waitress, she's great.
