Employee near tears

Hi guys. I'm not sure if this will belong here. It's not really about a boss, but how employees are treated by customers/public. I called to make a dentist appointment about 3 months ago, late Feb I think. The lady on the phone was hesitant and said the absolute soonest they had was second week in May. I was like, well ok, let's do May then. She said really?? I told her yeah that's fine if that's what you'll have. I could hear her voice almost crying. She said omg thank you. She told me that everyone that had called for an appointment got really angry, even nasty, with her because they were so booked out. She kept saying thank you for being so kind about this. No one else has been. We went through days and times because I wanted to schedule my husband and I together, but that…

We went through days and times because I wanted to schedule my husband and I together, but that would put us like another month out. I said well ok no problem, let's just separate our appointments. She told me I'd made her day for being so polite and understanding.

I felt so bad for her. I've done front desk at a medical office so I know how mean people can be about those things. And they take it out on you even though it's not your fault and there's nothing you can do to fix it for them. In my town, I know she prob makes like $10-12 an hour and has to deal with that crap all day.

Some people don't want to work anymore because the public can be so awful, and that's sad. I think if people want people working at their favorite places, they need to treat workers with respect, not just management!
