I noticed that my hourly pay rate was cut by ~$2 an hour. I messaged my HR person to point out the mistake on my paystub. I’ve been here for several months so it’s not like I was just hired.
The HR person asks me to meet with them, and they tell me that the reason was because of a “miscalculation” on their part, and that I was getting overpaid the entire time. They said the formula they used to calculate my hourly rate was wrong.
They also said that this was “something put on the back burner” as to why they didn’t notify me in advance. I don’t even know if they would’ve met with me had I not asked them about it.
What is interesting to me is that my signed offer letter only lists the hourly rate of pay without an annual salary listed. My offer letter DOES NOT say the annual pay that I “was supposed to be getting.” So IMO, based on the offer letter – I was getting the correct* amount since that hourly rate* is what I was offered and signed.
I clearly signed the offer letter with that hourly amount as being what we agreed to. I even asked them to double check the hourly amount since it was more than I expected and they verified it was right (I have this in writing from my then-boss). My boss even gave me the formula they used to calculate my salary (which I also have in writing).
The difference equates to almost $5k difference in my annual earnings. I really feel like I’ve been deceived by my company (even if it was unintentional).
