To be discreet, I was originally notified that I'd be let go about a month ago, and I was told my last day would be 2 days after the day I was told. They said it was due to overstaffing and was not linked to my performance whatsoever. They assured me over and over it had nothing to do with my performance. This was weird to me considering we just had a team meeting talking about how understaffed we were and how we would need possibly (XX) more people to actually properly deal with the work load we have coming in.
Following this message, I was also added to a group chat that same day with a team supervisor and one other agent who I'd never seen before. After looking up the other agent in queue I could see that they never did anything. They maybe had one completed task in the last 2 weeks and going back further, could see they maybe did 2 things per week for the last 5 months.
Then, the supervisor stated “You both are to work on nothing but this list until it is finished.” It was a list of hundreds of requests that from what I could gather seemed to be backlogged.
So that evening, I busted my ass and did probably 2x as much as usual.
I immediately hopped on it and started working them like I'd normally work anything else. I was able to finish about 35-50 each day, depending on the circumstances. And the other agent had done nothing but 1 single ticket.
The next morning, I was given another phone call and was told “Just wanted to let you know, we were able to get you a 2 week notice. So your last day is going to be (x) now (2 more weeks out)” . . . Okay???
By the original day that I was supposed to be let go, (before the 2 week notice was given to me) I had finished probably over 100 or more of the list I was given, and the other agent only had the 1 thing finished. It also turned out, the other agent was being let go that day. They posted in our team chat, being somewhat passive aggressive and talking about being grateful for the time with the team and how it was their last day.
This surprised me somewhat, because I was afforded a “2 week notice” after first being told I was being let go in like 2 days. (Keep in mind this was the morning after I had just done 3x the workload as normal)
I figured the other agent would surely have the same thing offered to them, but no, they were being let go on the same day that I was originally told I would be getting let go. But this kind of just reinforced my original suspicion that this was all a test to see if we were “quiet quitting” or something similar.
I just hate that it was done in this way, because
1: I really enjoy the work that I do here. I feel like I'm actively making a difference for the people I help.
And
2: If it was a matter of my performance being a problem, just talk to me about it?? If you are wanting me to do better/more, then let me know that so I can adjust myself accordingly.
I hadn't been told once that there was anything wrong with my progression or my stats since starting. And we just had a performance evaluation where I was told everything was good, had a big jump forward in stats and was doing well.
So far I have heard no updates, or changes. I feel like I will be hearing an update next week at some point but so far this whole experience has been an unnecessary headache and just feels like a game is being played on their end to “weed out people” who maybe don't want to do the work, or something.
