Throwaway to remain anonymous… I work for a developing FinTech company (500+ employees) in the US and in-person attendance has been a bit of an issue for some employees since they adapted to a hybrid policy (3 days out of office and 2 in-office) earlier in the summer. Recently everyone at the company got a mildly passive-aggressive emails stating that we were all required to be in the office on the selected in-person days, and were told that if we didn’t show on these required days, we would have 8-hours of PTO deducted even if you worked an entire day remotely…
Once everyone was in the office this morning managers proceeded to walk around asking where other employees were that were late or not at their desks, and I overheard one say “I have to take attendance of my department” to another manager, as he frantically looked for his employees. I then saw him go over to his laptop pull up a google sheet of every employee in the office with marks next to our names to indicate we were present and mark off which of his employees were in-office and which weren’t…
I truly can’t believe I’m at this point in my professional career where my employer is taking attendance like I’m in elementary school. They have so little trust in us that we are being treated like children…
