TL/DR: Fast food restaurant's hiring process is incredibly slow despite being desperate for workers.
My teen daughter applied around town for a job. As is the case everywhere, every restaurant around is begging for people. One restaurant, a major fast food chain was hiring. Sign on the door, “Now hiring.” Lighted marquee sign flashing “Now Hiring!” She applied on their website. Two weeks passed and she heard nothing, so I told her to call the restaurant. She did and they told her they saw that she applied and asked her if she wanted to interview. My daughter could interview immediately, the restaurant scheduled it out a week. A week after the interview she had heard nothing, so she called. They said yes, she was hired. Next step was orientation. They scheduled it a week later. She shows up, they can't do it that day as they weren't prepared. She goes in the following day and they do “orientation” that took 50 minutes and was a tour of the restaurant and she was handed a packet of work policies. Then they schedule “final orientation” for one week later. So far it has been 6 weeks and she has yet to work a shift. It's a fast food job. She was excited because several classmates work there, but now she is looking elsewhere and likely will be put to work somewhere else before this place gets around to it.
Bottom line, they are desperate for employees and have done nothing to fix their issue.
