So I’m a fine-dining waitress in Georgia. We’re some of the tip earners that are exempt from the federal minimum wage. But we spend anywhere from 2-4 hours not on the floor, either preparing or shutting down the restaurant, and during this time we make a WHOPPING $2.13 even though we have no possibility of earning tips during this time. There are some days where I go in, spend 2 hours prepping the restaurant, just to get cut before I even get a table. My tips do more than make up for my low wage (I end up making no less than $20/hr as a high school drop out) but it’s just so fucked knowing how little my labor is valued by my employer, and it shows in how we get scheduled even when it’s not profitable for us because it doesn’t cost them a thing. Is this legal?
