Long story short, I have worked for the same company for 5+ years. Underpaid most of the time and I have been okay with it due to remote flexibility. Wife and I decided to move so I found a new job with about a 30% raise. Start date was quite a ways out so I decided to mess with my current employer and ask for a raise about a month out from my start date knowing they wouldn’t budge. My company very much does not value its IT team even though I am heading up a large project. Of course, they said no dice and we could revisit the discussion next year. Two weeks later I put in my two weeks notice and magically a 10k raise is on the table. I politely declined and in the exit interview I made sure to note the previous negotiation. Leave that underpaid job people!
