I work for a MMD company. They have a tendancy to not allow injured workers to receive treatment. Recently they sent out a memo in writing which states “DO NOT go to the ER or your personal doctor if you are injured at work. We will send you to our own facility”
The thing is, they don't. Let's say someone injures their arm and believe it is broken and wants to get treatment. Our safety manager will refuse to allow you to go get treatment. Will do everything possible to talk you out of going. If an injury occurs on an off shift, they will tell you that you must sit and wait until their facility opens. This can be hours. Recently a coworker broke their hand. This employee wanted medical treatment. The safety manager told them no. Put ice on it and wait 3-4 hours for him to come in and look at it. We flat out asked management what to do if someone is injured and wants to go to the ER. We were told unless that person is dieing, they can not go.
Everything I've researched says this is illegal but I don't know who I could report it to.
